Default SLK WONT START

My fiancee has a 2001 slk kompressor and today it did not start. when i would try to start it, it would just click, click, click, click, click. All the lights are on in the car and everything is functioning, but it wont start. What do you think the problem is?

It sounds like you might have a battery problem. Turn on the headlights and try. I fthey go really dim, then you need to recharge or possibly replace your battery.

I agree battery of start solnoid problem, I more inclined to the battery, it takes a lot to crank over the engine. Are the headlights dull when you turn them on?

Thanks

Your advice was correct. I bought a new battery and it started up. I went to the shop and they said it was an alternator. What crooks.

Don't call them crooks if you don't know what exactly happened.
It is unlikely, that MB brand battery would go bad in 4 years. Very likely alternator didn't charge it and that was why it run low.
Keep us posted?

Katjek is right about it still possibly being an alternator problem. The alternator charges up the battery, and if it not working properly, the battery will go flat. If you know someone witha voltmeter, get them to check that the battery has 13.5 to 14 volts on it when the battery is charging.

I think though that it would be more likely to be a battery problem than an alternator after only 4 years, but it may be a good idea to get a second opinion on the alternator.
