should i buy a 1972 220d
hello everyone, i am thinking about purchasing a 1972 220D, asking price is $2,500. this will have to be my daily driver for a while so i want to make sure i don't get myself into something i will regret.
the car has 75,000 miles on it. the body and interior are in great condition with only a couple small chips in the paint no larger than 9mm or so in size. the underside of the car is very clean. no rust to be seen. also it has been well undercoated, do i understand correctly that this is factory?
the car seemed to start well but i felt the engine before hand it had been warmed up so it wasn't a true cold start. the brakes were great, not at all what i was expecting from this old car.
the only major downsides was the incredibly slow acceleration, also i have never owned a diesel car and don't know if there are any major quirks i am going to run into.
i am on a limited budget so when i found what seems to be a reliable car with good gas milage at a good price it seemed like a winner but i need some experienced input before i proceed.
P.S. if this car ends up being something i should go for is there any way to up the HP/acceleration? i have been building and playing with engines my whole life so i am confident that if there are any little thing that improve HP i could take care of it.
Thanks in advance,
Corey
