Default S550 Heated Steering

Have a 2010 S550 4matic with heated steering. One side has gone out. Living in frozen tundra of MN would love to find a used replacement and or a resource to have this repaired. MB can replace however I can buy way too many pairs of gloves for their price of between $3,000-$5,000. Any help or suggestions appreciated.

I get the impression that my issue is in the heating element itself rather than the circuit or temperature regulating portion. The indicator light goes on and the left half of the wheel gets quite warm. It’s the right side that does not heat at all. Is there separate fuses for each side or something that would cause only half the element to stop heating

No problem, glad to help out. I tried searching for a diagram of how the heated wheel functions, but was not able to find anything. Do you have the car's user manual? - there may be some helpful info in there. I'm not aware of a workshop manual for your S550, but there is likely one. It should have all the repair guidelines inside. Lastly, your MB dealer will likely be able to give you some insight as well. Sorry that we couldn't be of more help.
