Default Newly Aquired 190D Turbo

I just got a 1987 190D Turbo last week. The car is in prestine condition always garaged and only has 110K on it. From a looks stand point I was very impressed but I didn't expect much in the performace department especially since they can get upwards of 30mpg. Well was I wrong, this thing really has some pop to it. It is kinda slow out of the gate but once the rpms come up and the turbo kicks in you get up to speed no problem. Anyway I do have a few questions about the car. I'm having a hard time finding any information on this model equiped with the turbo. Since it has 110K is their any major required maintance coming up or that should have been performed (timing chain, valve adjustment, etc)? Also does anybody have an online service manual or this car or where to go to get more information on this model? First impressions are great I just hope this thing will stay that way.Great forum you got here!!!

You've named what I would have suggested, a timing chain at 100k and the valve adjustment when needed. Check the cooling system as well for leaks or possible overheating.

A few questions, can you post pics of the car and engine? How much did you buy it for? Is it a manual or auto?

And if you ever think of selling the car, please contact me!

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to get the car this weekend so I'd be happy to take some pics of the car and engine for you. The car is auto, I didn't know they offered it in stick which would be really cool. I actually got this car from my mother in law. I did some work on her house and I wasn't really expecting anything since she is family but I guess she felt bad about all the hours of work I put in so she offered me the car as payment. It is a pretty cool car and the only 190 I have seen withvents in the passenger fender.

I have the original window sticker and all supporting documentation. She was the car's original owner and the car was purchased from a dealer in NY. Since you are in MD I will defenitely contact you if I decide to sell it.

I think the 300 turbo gas/diesel may have had them, but they are cool and I wish my 190D had them. So do a lot of 16v owners. How many miles are on it?

This car has 110K on it and the majority of that was highway comuting. I'll try and get you some pics. Is it true that this car was only sold for 1 year in the US? Do you happen to know how many where imported over here?

Well the 190D was sold in the US from 84-87 I believe, 84 and 85 offered the 2.2L, while 86 and 87 offered a 2.5L non-turbo. 87 was the only year for the turbo model. MB made 2,386 of them, there were fewer than 1500 brought to the US. Probably less than a quarter are still around on the roads

You are just a wealth of information and I certainly appreciate it. It is cool to have something you aren't going to see everyday on the roads. I'll be in touch with the pics shortly

Sorry for the late response. Thanks for the pics Dave!Interesting how compared to the 2.2 and the 2.5 turbo is that they had to move the washer fluid to the right. I guess the engine keeps it warmer for the winter or something. How often do you drive the car?
