Newbie question about '92 190E 2.6 cooling
HI guys,
I haven't checked the forums yet, but my sis's 190E with 185k is in mint condition. However the temp gauge seems to run up quick to around 100c when in stop and go traffic or idling for a few minutes. Themanual says to expect this, however it makes me a little uneasy and I haven't noticed the auxillary fans coming on. All other vehicles I've had keep the temp steady around 190-200f unless something is wrong.
Where should I start looking to find out why the fans aren't kicking on, or do they wait til the temp gets on up closer to 120c?
Glad to be here, thanks in advance for any advice.

Okay, Now that I've had time to do some searching on the site it looks like these auxillary fans are a pretty common and sometimes complicated problem. I'm thinking 1)run 12v to the fans to verify they will work. 2) check voltage at the fan connectors when engine is above 210f. 3) find a diagram to see where the switch/switches are located and check condition of each. 4)trace/ohm all wiring looking for breaks. 5) I think I read a post referring to a fan control module. I need to find it and verify it's condition.
If anybody has a pic file with the wiring diagram for the auxillary cooling fans on this 1992 190E/260, I would be more than happy to buy several of your favorite adult beverages.
I live in Hampton, Georgia,USA, home of Atlanta Motor Speedway. My favorite hobby is hotrodding Johnson and Evinrude outboard motors. My personal transportation is a 2003 Ford F350 Superduty pickup with a 6.0liter Powerstroke Turbo Diesel with an Edge Juice/attitude performance computer in line with the stock PCM. AFE air filter system and a modified 4" exhaust. According to the numbers it puts out around 440hp and 800ft lbs torque.......it IS sweet, 150k and no problems YET. I do drive it like a little old lady though.
Now if I can get a little help fixing my Sis's 190E, life will be perfect.
Thanks again,
Johnrude
