Default Lambda sensor

Dear All

I have a merecedes c class 200K compressor March 2004 1796 engine, I had the mil light on and a very lumpy idle after plugging the car in to my lap top got the fault O2 sensor fault mixture too rich. I replaced the sensor with a genuine merecedes part £185 !, I now have the same lumpy idle and the fault O2 sensor circuit fault. The diagnostics show the sensor readings in live time, if you unplug the sensor and then turn the car off and then re-connect the sensor and re-start the car the fault does not shoe for about a minute (Still lumpy idle), the sensor replaced was the upstream as this was the one being identified as being at fault. Could i be so unlucky that the sensor is a faulty unit, any idease will be much appreciated.

Thanks

Tony
