I just purchased a 1998 C230 with 112,000 miles in Florida.
It was an on line purchase, and the car, based on the photos, is mint.
Car Fax shows 2 owners. Orig. owner Georgia, and the 2nd owner Florida.
From the reviews I read prior to purchasing, it was in the 4.5 to 5 star rating as far as reliability. I did some available parts checking on line, and it seems that parts are more than reasonably priced, and decent availability.
I will pick the car up May 16th, and I am looking for any comments as to possible problems and things I should go over with a fine tooth comb before a road trip of around 3000 miles.
Any comments would be appreciated.

 

I own the same model and year for last 9 years. So far, no major problems. Before you get the car check oil and serpentine belt. From my experience, it is easy to maintain the car.
When you get back home make sure that you get familiar with the car ASAP. To save the money for potential repairs you should have 3 things at home:
1. STAR Service Manual Library, model 202, 16-bit DVD disk / repair, maintenance, diagnostic information and function description, wiring diagrams with component location /.
Part No. P-2700-202-06. Keep in mind that you can not run disk on 64-bit based OS.
2.HAYNES, Mercedes Benz models covered: C180, C200, C220, C230 & C250 Service and Repair Manual.
3.ACTRON OBD II AutoScanner, model: CP9175.

With full tank expect to get between 380 and 400 miles.
City 23 Mpg.
Highway 30 Mpg.
Do not forget to ask for radio code.

I appreciate your comments, and they seem to fall in line with most things I read up on. Basically, a very reliable and economical car to operate.
When my trip is complete, I will post the results.
