Default i'm a newbie

Hi guys. My name is Didi, i live in the San Francisco Bay Area and I'm on the prowl for a nice '85 or '86 300SD.

In the past i've been scared off by the high maintenance costs. one of my classmates who works in the parts department at the MB dealership in San Francisco recomended that i look for a nice 80's diesel, saying they are very realiable and run forever.

i'm not a car newbie. My first project car was a '79 Buick Regal. A few years ago i fixed up an '87 camaro IROC for my dad (he wanted a mid life crisis car) so i have some experience in fixing cars. I'm lucky to live in the bay area with many excellent independent MB shops. I'm looking to expand my knowlege to diesel engines. I've been import curious a long time. I'm 25, it's time that i get over my affections for GM.

I'm not looking for another major project. I'm looking for something clean and well maintained. i understand that there are going to be things that need work on a 23-year-old car. I like big cars and the 300SD looks so damn cool. I also need enough back seat to comfortably seat three children because i can't bring myself to minivan.
