Hey guys,

My name is bret and this is my first post. I have a question in regards to a motor I just picked up with its transmission. Im wondering what I have. It is from a 1970's 4.5 L v8 mercedes engine out of a 450sl. The motor runs and from what I have gathered is mechanically fuel injected. My first question of several is

1. Im assuming they were smog motors like the american engines from the 1970's and had low compression. Im familiar with chevy and ford engines but is their companies out there that make performance parts for these engines to increase the airflow and compression?

2. Has anyone here actually done work on this motor to make more horsepower?

3. Can I or has anyone reverted the engine back to carburation? I would like to find an aftermarket intake for the motor and run a 4barrell carb to wake her up. Has anyone done this

4. What is the actual name of the motor I do not have the casting numbers or anyother information and really do not know where to find them. I will look but is there a name for the motor many sites seem to call is the 450sl
