Hello and a little intro
Just wanted to introduce myself, I currently live in Houston TX and currently own a 2001 ML320. This is my third, yes third, ML. The prior two have been wrecked and spent a huge about of time in the repair and body shop. I learned a vast about of information during these repairs as well as from this ML. I have fixed myself everything from the mystery cold water on the passengers side floor, the water fall on the driver side from the SKYVIEW roof drain system, fuel pump replacement, moving the media center (nav and sound) from a 2000 into the 2001, connected the cell phone system on the 2001 as well.
This ML survived the gulf coast wet weather. It was a hero to many a stranded friend who I was able to drive through the almost chest high water (TIP: NEVER let your foot off the gas when driving through high water as it will suck water right up the tail-pipe)with no leaks, plucking them from really anyplace they were stuck. This Tropic Storm Allison dropped up to 35 inches of rain in some parts of Houston, with 28 inches falling in 10 hours. As a result, approximately two-thirds of the areas that flooded were outside the 1% (100 year) floodplan! That is a floodplain occurring from rainfall that has a 1% chance of being equaled or exceeded within 100 YEARS!
So even with all the problems that some people have with the ML, I guess you can see I am a BIG fan. You see the 2000 ML320 that I had was involved in a single car accident in which I broke all 4 wheels off hitting curbs, rolled the ML landing upside down after hitting two LARGE trees and walked away without as much as a scratch.
