Default Hello and a general question about choosing a MB

I was on the forum many years ago and decided to join again because I'm thinking about getting another car. So far, I've had an '84 300SD, a '75 450SEL and a '67 280...I loved how dependable they were and love the look.

I'm thinking of getting another and I'm torn between a diesel (mid 80's to 90's) and getting a large V8.

So in your opinion, which models are the most dependable and best value?
I know I want a sedan and I'm looking for models that don't have known issues i.e. wiring harness problems or being know for bending rods....

Any opinions are appreciated.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was looking for. I've also heard MB had a good inline 6.

The turbo diesels are inexpensive, relatively easy to get parts for and fun. They are pretty easy to work on too. 82-84 are my favorite years so far. Seems like many people like the late eighties diesels too. I personally don't have much experience with them yet.

I just wanted to let everyone know I picked up an '87 300SDL with 190K.
It has all the service records going back to 93 and everything on it works (other than the antenna).
But sweet jebbus it's slow. I'm thinking I'll have to check the ALDA adjustments as well as the waste gate and all the lines to make sure they're functional and spec.

Are there any links or stickies that describe the process?
