Dumb questions?
I'm a newbie to this forum I will admit. I am acquiring my first MB this week.
1986 300 SDL Sedan.
I do not see a SDL section forum. Does this classify as an "S" class?
Also what are the pros / cons of this car?
It has the inline 6 cylinder turbo diesel and currently a bad automatic transmission.
Thoughts, comments, arguments, suggestions..... all welcome.
Thanks

This 300SDL would be the Diesel Mercedes-Benz S class. the SDL is the long wheel-base model with the standard 300SD engine. Don't know if that answers your question.
Its a 3.0L straight 5 diesel engine with a power output of 92Kw which is about 120hp..

Oh and, I would recommend staying away from it since it has a bad transmission since it would be costly to repair. Unless you are prepared to fix it. Other than that its a strong engine although it sometimes feels like it struggles with the weight of the car in some situations. Other than that, it will cruise nicely at highway speeds (being a mercedes) and returns a good fuel figure for an old Merc of this size. I'd suggest you looked at a few Other similair Mercedes-Benz cars just to compare.
Thank you for your insight, The price was right at $500 so I went ahead and bought it. It came with all the books, paperwork, maintenance records, and any other paperwork they had.
My plan is to put a 5 speed manual transmission in it.
This car is a 6 cylinder turbo diesel.
Thank you for your time.
