Default Dont mean to appear ignorant but

Just purchased 2001 SLK230...radio has terrible reception - not sure if this is typical or if I have a bad radio/antena. This is my first mercedes, my first convertible - husband totally against it .. dont wanna hear i told you so..... i want to replace the factory radio/casette player with after market stereo/cd player.. any suggestions - I hear if i try to replace the factory install it will muck up the electronics... help me.. woman in need of advice.

Congratulations on your new car. I also owned a SLK320 but my radio reception was very good. I did end up installing a cd changer to get music I liked. Because MB uses Fibre Optic for sound system, you are quite limited to what you can install and still be able to use the controls on the dash for your CD changer. I did end up going to a reputable Consumer Electonics Retail Store who sold me a great system that was compatible. It worked great and set me back about $1200 USD installed. Don't fool around with FM modulator types as it will just be throwing money out the roof.

I beleave there is an antenna amplifier in the trunk. Your's could be malfunctioning or have a loose connection.

If I read correctly she has a 230, not a 320?
