Hi all, I am a newbie, I have an 86 560 SL with the hard top in place. Unfortunately it is convertable weather and I cannot get the top off. I followed the direction in the manual and it seems to be stuck in the center of the back of the window. I can lift up the front and both sides, just not in the middle of the back.

Any ideas?

I just obtained an 87 and had exactly the same problem.

The issue is likely that the safety latch is sticking. First I assume you have followed the manual and put the lever in the correct position. I found that all it took is to have one person on each side pull up on the top gently and carefully use a screwdriver to pull back the safety lever that is holding the bolt in the middle.

The real fix is to adjust the cable that pulls back the safety level. In the meantime this should work.
