81 240D problems

81 240D problems
Hi,
i just bought an 81 240D. The odometer stopped working at 176k. The speedometer also does not work. Does anyone know how to fix this problem since i never know how fast i am driving.
also when i was looking to buy the car i checked the blow by and there was none. A couple days later when i checked at my house there was some. It was blowing up slight amounts of oil. Also when i take the oil cap off the engine changes it sounds. Other than that the engine does not smoke at all and seems to run perfectly fine. I drove it the other day and it runs just fine. Does anyone know if this is a problem at all.

Broken odometer, http://www.dieselgiant.com/repairyourodometer.htm I still have to do it on mine too.
Broken speedo, I have to research on that one. Won't hurt to check the cable. Mine still works smoothly. I probably need to have it calibrated though.
Got an 81 300D, has some blow by, blows up some oil, no need to top up oil between oil changes, runs fine, 330,000 Km. No worries. With the oil cap off and the engine changes sound, that's like taking out part of your sound proofing. You'll obviously hear louder clicks and clacks.
Still have to do a diesel purge, adjust valves, replace all the vacuum stuff, do the tranny, minor rust repair and a wash over of paint.
