500 SEL
G'day from Australia.
Wonder if any member has an answer to a problem I have with my '83 500SEL?
After travelling for some 130km I had a power drop-off which gradually reduced my speed from 130kph to 100, then 80, then 60, at which speed I was able to continue. Stopping the car with engine off for 5 minutes or so allowed me to resume speed for about 13km, thenthe slowdown process re-occurred. I replaced the fuel pump and filter about 25,000km ago. I also considered an air blockage that would create a vacuum in the petrol tank, but there was no difficulty in removing the fuel cap and no associated air noise. The engine starts easily and runs evenly at idle. I suspect fuel starvation due to when depressing the accelerator during this slowdown period, there is a marked speed reduction; releasing the pedal slightly allows the engine to run evenlu. albeit slowly.
All and any suggestions gratefully received
Cheers
Dave
