4th Benz...97 E320
My 86 190E broke it's head so I sold it to another happy owner that had a rusted out body. My new to me 97 E320 has issues. It is a reconstruct. I am an electrical engineer and the mechanical alignment issues I can take care of, but i am in sticker shock at the price gouging for things like the headlight lenses. $1100-2200 seems a bit steep for only the lense for a driver's side Hella pn# 144 335 00 (molded into the lens). it is a xenon fixture with the servo steering mechanism in it. the previous owner/rebuilder replaced the fixture with a halide (chinese) fixture and it is aimed wrong, and it is the wrong color, and gives a defective light warning when I turn on the lights. The old fixture works fine but it is not weather proof.
Another problem is the MAP sensor did not give any problem until I needed to make an emergency stop last Thursday. another driver did not have brake lights but I got stopped in time after he lit up his tires. My engine warning light came "ON"!
a couple of minutes later the big display came on with a "Check engine electronics" warning.
I found the original problem with the MAP sensor by ear as the hose from the engine (or frm the direction of the engine was not fully connected to the sensor. I reconnected the sensor and now the warning does not come on for the first 2 seconds after the engine is started. I take it that the Battery must be disconnected to reset the computer?
