2000 S500 Accelerator stuck, out of control
My mechanic was test driving the car, hit the accelerator and went from 60 to 100 and climbing. He turned the car off, towed back to the shop and he replaced the pedal
mechanism. He said this should never have happened and he has not heard of it happening.
Has anyone else had this problem? I am reporting it to the NTSB.

never heard of that happeneng ever! ...actually i have heard of it happening but it was a car with a throttle linkage and a stick fell under the hood and caused the throttle to jam. there is no cable,,its all electronic. did it happen to you? then maybe there is another story behind what happened? what did you have the car at the shop for? did he replace the pedal thinking it was going to fix a problem? and it didnt fix it? Generally on a Benz when there is a throttle position problem the car will not accel at all. it wont allow you to press the gas for fear that full throttle could happen.

vehicle did this one time when I was driving and I dismissed it. Car was in shop for an ignition problem. Mechanic said it was not an electronic failure but a mechanical failure. Work invoice says replace crankshaft sensor and replace accelerator pedal assembly. He said when it was stuck no fault codes set.
