1981 mercedes 300D (non turbo)
Hi everyone, new to a mercedes forum. I have a chance to get a mercedes 300D (non turbo). Its from the origional owner with all the documents. It only has 54,000 miles on it and besides being dirty from sitting around, the car is in pretty much showroom cond. she is the only one who drove it and was the only pass. in it. I drove it and everything is in working order. I know it is the non turbo so u have less power than a turbo. But right now im driving a 01 kia rio. need I say more. And im sick of driving disposible peices of crap. On take off the power for the mercedes pretty much feels like my rio. so the non turbo doesnt concern me. My question is the fuel mileage? I only drove it for a couple of times back and forth to my house. about 15min. each time so I dont now how the fuel mileage is. I seen online people saying only around 21-24 mpg. If this is the case then it probably wouldnt be worth me getting it seeing I travel 80 miles a day between 65-75 mph. and with the fuel price difference.diesel is $4.15 a gal. and reg gas is $3.30 a gal. I really like the car and how long they last. as long as u keep up with the maint. I also dont see really any upgrades for it besides a turbo fan in front of the air cleaner. I also do all the work to my cars myself. I just dont wont to be going from fourty dollars a week to eighty dollars a week. I hope I didnt bore you with all this. thanks for your time. PS I was hoping to see if its posible to get at least 30mpg. thanx again.

thanks for the info. thats kinda depressing. is there stuff you can do to improve it? like bigger exhaust for better flow, ram air kit? Something you can do as you drive it or would it be a waste of my time. thanks again.

How do I know when to when to get a valve adjustment and compression test?
Hello, I recently purchased my first Mercedes and it's a 1981 300D (non turbo). I'm wondering how to tell if you need to get a valve adjustment or compression test. If you guys have any tips about this car that would be very helpful as well!
