probably the harness in the rear liftagate. the same thing happens to the e class sedan. the harness breaks at the trunk lid hinge. and needs to be repaired. i honestly never did a repair on a wagon so i dont have the details for you on the repair but i wouldguess the harness/ wires are broken.

I had the same thing happen on an SL. Before making the splice, place a piece of plastic or rubber tubing on the wire and slide it back over the connection when complete. Mine also took out the highlight on the trunk lid.

I took the talgate apart and did not fine any broke or shorting out wires. However every wire in the taigate all went to a black box with the number 029 545 60 32 (00). everthing writen on it is in German so I do not know what it is. I checked att the fuses and did not fine any that were bad. How do I check if the box to see if it is bad and is it getting power?????

Thank you
I had checked both of the black boots that are on both sides of the gate. I opened both of them and did not find any wire problem. That is why I took off the gate inside cover and found the black box. I can seam to find what this box is and if it is getting power.

After checking for broken wires in the hinge boot and not finding any broken wires, I replaced the Tail gate controller Part # 029 454 60 32 and that fixed the problem. Now everything on the tail gate works again.
Thank you all for your help.
