Default Transmission/differential oil change.

Hi SleepWalker...
My 01' 320SLK Sport has reach 65k on the odometer, thought the dealer told me that I do not have to worry about changing the automatic transmission fluid and differential fluid until 100k. However, I'm intended to keep my car for as long as I can, and that's why I want to keep up with the maintenance. I'm ok with tools and have a good idea on how to do these simple tasks, of course with some help/direction from you.

What oil do I use for the auto transmission? and the filter kit? Do I need new gasket?......BM dealer?
How can I tell if I have enough trans-fluid in?.......there's no dipstick for the trans in my car.

The same question for the differential...I guess..

I appreciate any infos/help....Many thanks.

Cheers..

It is recommended on these forums to change these oils before you get too much miles on them, like change it now.
Diff is easy but you will need a pit or hoist (or ramps and axle stands for other end.)
Undo fill plug 1st ALWAYS, in case you cant after you drain. Open 14mm hex, drain into a pan.
Replace with 75/90 syn diff oil until it runs out of fill hole.

Auto needs a sump gasket and a filter plus a dip stick from ebay or MB tool shop.
01 model probably doesnt have a drain in torque convertor so change oil a 2nd time a few hundred miles down the road.
Same again lift car, drain oil, measure how much comes out if you dont have a dip stick and replace with same qty.
Remove sump, wipe clean, remove filter and replace. Use new gasket .

Fill with oil (from MB dealer). Same amount as removed or if you have the dip stick, guess the amount and when engine reaches normal temp dip and read level to 80c marks.

Same g/box here
