Default Stuck top

Please help! My 1999 slk230's top won't come down. the trunk lid will open but the motors/pumps just hum. Stealer diagnosed it as faulty switches in the windshield pillar and would charge $900.00 to replace 2 of them. I am wondering if anyone knows if the alternate method of raising the top mechanically will work in reverse? In other words, does anyone know whether or not I can release the locks with the hex wrench in the access in the roof, which would then allow the rest of the hydraulics to work? I tried turning the little hex nut counterclockwise but couldn't seem to get it to go and was hesitant to be too aggressive. Any thoughts welcome

Dealer is 99.9% correct.

You can buy switches inc loom att from dealers. Bugger to reroute cables. You can also cut wires near sw and replace .
Simplist thing to try 1st is to remove the silicon bellows off switches as they hold sw open and were changed on later ones.

Undo white plug in roof, use allen key from tool box and release catches.
