Hi, Im new but had a question that I didnt find in search(well I did but it was for the wrong model). How can I tell whether I have the self level power steering pump or not? Also If I do is it possible to put in the non self leveling if you have the self leveling? Its a 2000 SLK 320. THanks alot, and If this has been covered please post the link, I just couldnt find it. RE: SLK 320 P.S. Pump Q???
Hi,
Self levellingusually refers to the rear suspension height and has nothing to do with Power Steering.
Self levelling (many different ways of achieving this from self contained and powered dampers to full air suspension) is usually used where there is a potential big difference in rear axle which would result in secondary problems like incorrect headlight beam setting if not addressed by self levelling. Good for caravan owners due to high hitch loads & loads of equipmewnt..

RE: SLK 320 P.S. Pump Q???
I know that self leveling is usually associated with suspension but when you look at the parts to order a PS pump it comes up as self leveling and non self leveling, I need to know if the two are interchangeable and how to tell the type I have. Unless I didnt understand your response.

RE: SLK 320 P.S. Pump Q???
Hi,
Thanks for responding.
I guess that there must be a self levelling option that uses the PAS pump output to achieve self levelling as well as Power steering. By self levellinbg maybe they mean ABC. (Roll Control)
You learn something new every day.
Can't think why the SLK would need self levelling (very stubby boot so little overhang and not really the sort of car that you tow with and wasn't aware ABC was an option.!!
Maybe the part (PAS pump) is common with other models that use the M112 (320 V6) engine like the w220 S Class and w210 E Class just to mention just 2. The S Class has ABC.
In which case I would expect the answer to be No Self levelling BUT this is an educated guess rather than fact.
regards,
Stuart.

RE: SLK 320 P.S. Pump Q???
so I just called a local mercedes repair shop and they said that the unit acts with the suspension(as stated above) to self level the car only if you have the sport option(its a button in the console for it) and the units are NOT interchangeable due to the fact it is neccesary for the suspension leveling!! hope this helps someone.
