is the key transmitter or battery ok? check prices on 170 820 11 26 or 170 820 18 26 DAS module. my 98 uses the 11 26. I found it new at www.qenuinemercedesparts.com for $200. it's located behind the instrument cluster above the fuel and temperature guage. might check on compatibility though. I think it may need to be programmed to the key transmitter and will require lock and chassis numbers. my alldata subscription isn't clear on the process, might ask the local Merc dealer's service dept..

Hi! Thank you very much for the revert. The problem is not with the key or the battery. It's the control unit that is located in the right side bottom of the cars boot. Looks like water has somehow entered and the circuit has blown causing the unit to shut down. Have asked the local mercedes dealer for costs but still awaiting an estimate.

it's the 170 800 08 28 PSE pump/control module you can check prices by part #. Auto Parts at AutohausAZ - OEM Auto Parts - Discount Replacement Parts, Resources and Car Care Tips under "electrical and vacuum" they have them new for under $600. it shouldn't take over a 1/2 hour to replace. you can replace yourself easily. Take out the trunk floor cover. remove tire according to owners manual, open foam box to the lower right side of trunk behind jack tools/hardware and remove pump.
