PSE Part Numbers
Any Part Number experts out there please?
I'm in the process of trying to unravel the mysteries of failing PSE's and associated circuits which seems to be quite a common MB failing.
To move forward further I need to understand in more detail the MB Part Number Coding structure on PSE Modules please.
Basically what is the difference between the following units:-
170 8000 148 (06) Scrap component from dealer bin. vehicle spec. unknown.
170 8000 248 ref Sleepwalker. Interchangeable with 548
170 8000 348 ref Sleepwalker. Interchangeable with 548
170 8000 448 ref Sleepwalker. Interchangeable with 548
170 8000 548 (?) SLK 230 1999 UK
170 8000 648 (01) SLK 320 2001 UK
170 8000 848 (?) ref SleepWalker. Latest part for "old style" SLK
170 8001 248 (?) Replacement used by "Martin"
It looks as though the first digit of the last group may be a revision level.
However on the "evidence" I have to date the 170 8000 148 (06) has only 2 electrical connections (although provision exists in the design for 4!) whilst the 170 8000 648 (01) has 4.
Maybe the revision process has added extra features in which case interchangeability will be an issue but if so why was the provision there on the 170 8000 148? Mmmm... Interesting.
"Martin" in his post (SLK 230 PSE pump) advises that he has fitted a 170 8001 248 which he took from another vehicle of the same type as his. However it doesn't work.
The part number is printed on a white label on the side of the PSE unit which is located in a foam block on the RHS of the boot (trunck) adjacent to the vehicle jack.
Any contributions gratefully received?
Stuart.

This is my first post on this site and slightly late but here goes - My PSE failed last week and I have been trying to find out why or how the water got in, the pse itself was destroyed with fire damage etc. I ahve always had a problem with the drain right hand side from the roof down to the tube just behind the rear wheel I always have to press my finger in to release any water, this was full. Looking to where the pse is housed there is a small square hole at the back I think the water could have got in there althought the connectors show signs of water ingress etc. You asked for numbers the car is a 1998 230K which my son uses since I bought a SLK350 last Jul.
Numbers on the side of the Hella cover
007828-29
002298230 69-0264-7
1708000548.
I still can,t believe MB put a expensive bit of kit like this at the bottom of the boot (trunk) with little or no water protection, the fire safety alone should have been a recall being a few inches from the fuel tank., there must have been hundreds or more failures.

Stuart; I found this surfing this AM. It breaks down part numbers (in simple form). I could not find a more detailed list.
