Default Oil leak

Oil is leaking on my 2001 SLK230.
The leak is located at the front crankshaft seal and oil drops under the engine. (the level on the gauge drops about 2-3 millimeters whithin 8000KM (oops 5000miles !)
Does somebody had this trouble? is it difficult to change the seal?
Thanks !

The hardest part is removing the pulley properly. ie It is recommended to use a tool that hold the pulleywhilst you undo it . This is to prevent flexing crankshaft whilst undoing nut.
You can remove by sticking an 1/2" bar thru hole in torque convertor area.
Try for a couple of dealer or Independant MB places 1st.

Cost me $200 Oz. A bit steep but that included changing belts too.

Yes, after reading the doc, it seems the problem is removing the pulley...

At my MB dealer it will cost about 380euro (approx $300) . And the seal itself is cheap ($10)
But they told me that this oil leak problem often exist on SLKs wich are not used for long time periods. He also told me that the leak is minor and he thinks it is possible to leave all as this.. (i don't have carpet on my garage ground so it does'nt matter if it's slightly oiled !)

thanks !

Spray area with degreaser and hose off with water.
It will be easy to control mess this way and may not seem as bad.
