AC 1/2 hot and 1/2 cold

AC 1/2 hot and 1/2 cold
Good Morning
I have a weird problem or at least weird to me. I have a 1998 SLK230. The AC blows cold on the passenger side but hot on the drivers side. Is there a simple fix or is it on the way to the shop?

my first guess and easiest to get at would be the heater control valves next to where you put in windshield cleaning fluid. might put a hose clamp on one or the other and see what happens. could be other things but that is the most common thing with that symptom.
