Default Where is Horn relay

92 500sl - tested horns and they work. Checked fuse and and showed as good but replaced anyway. When I turn on car to position 2 and press horn on steering wheel I get nothing. Thought the relay may have been behind fuse box but could not identify the relay so I looked on passenger side under cover and could not find it there either. When I pressed horn with both covers off I could not hear a click anywhere. Do I have to take the steering wheel airbag off to test there (not a preference) or can someone tell me where relay is located? I have seen pictures of relay in catalogs but I cannot find a similar device under the hood. If I do find how can I test?

Thanks. I did look at this box previously but could not discern which relay it might be as it was way under the sheet metal. Since no noise came from that area when I pressed the horn button I will have to test if the relay is functioning and if so then it tells me the problem is in the steering wheel.

Hi Brookings, I opened the fuse and relay box on the drivers side and the 5 slots for square relays only had relays in the back two (towards back of vehicle). The first three slots had no receptacles in them and the back two were 5 prong and 6 prong relays which the part numbers indicated they were for the windows and some other devices. I am attaching pictures of the relay box showing what is there. Does this mean someone has eliminated the relays or could they be somewhere else for the 92 year model?

I didn't know they changed things up in the relay box. it sure doesn't look like my 90. would think it was consolidated into one of remaining relays. where as mine are all square, I suspect the larger of the two smaller relays in the back.

It sounds like you're having a bit of a challenge with your horn relay. On a 92 500SL, the horn relay is typically located in the fuse box under the hood. However, it can sometimes be tricky to locate. If you haven't already done so, try checking the owner's manual for a diagram or specific location.
Testing the relay can be done by using a multimeter to check for continuity or by swapping it with a known working relay to see if the horn starts working. Taking off the steering wheel airbag might be necessary if the relay is located behind it, but it's best to try other options first.
If you're interested in exploring more horn options, you might want to check out Boss Horn's at https://bosshorn.com/products/milwau...-air-horn-quad
