Default Tires for 2001 SL500- what to buy?

The 2001 SL500 has 32K miles and will need tires soon. I do only about 5K a year and none in snow. Am looking for quiet tires and do not wish to spend $1200 for the best Z rated Michelins, Dunlops, etc.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Thanks.

Have a 2001 and put a set of the Dunlop 9000 in the front. The car handles better but then I replaced a warn set so anything would have been an improvement. Only problem is that after letting the car sit for several days, it takes a few minutes for the tires to run smooth.

Hey Joe,
After researching quite a bit, I bought a set of Pirelli PZero Nero. I paid roughly $850.00 for the set and that included a 4 wheel alinement. I notice my '98 SL handled better pulling out of the tire dealer. Very little noise and nearly zero vibration ( even at 90 plus MPH). I did also purchase a brand new set of 18 inch rims (I had 3 bent from the previous owner).

I only have probably 1500 miles thus far, but even if they wear faster than a set of Michelins, they were still half the price and I doubt they'll wear out twice as fast.

An awesome website to research tires in www.tirerack.com
Good luck.
BTW... Great town Boston, I have drank quite of few beers in your wonderful city.
GO BO-SOX!
All the best,
E

Thanks, Elvis. I did go with the exact same tires last Saturday. The quietness and smoothness was noticeable right away. The local Goodyear store almost matched Tire Rack pricing and with the balancing and 7% GA tax, I was up to $900+.
Zaphod617: I did not want to go back with the Dunlops. Thanks for your comments.
