Does my SL have it? I had a '95 Ford that had it so it seems that the SL should.

If you're unfamiliar with my terminology, I'm talking about how the steering wheel becomes harder to turn as the car's speed increases. I think also the ratio changes, but maybe not? This is done so the steering at the wheel is less sensitive to motion at highway speeds, so when you're going 80 mph you can lean over and slap your kid or look over at your sweetie for a moment to tell her/him how cute/handsome she/he is without changing lanes or flying off the road and into a pond or a grazing cow.

Mine seems too sensitive at high speeds. If my car has it how can I test if it's working?

 

just take a peek on the steering box lugnut. if there is a wire attached to it, then you have it. this is a black wire and the it goes up to the connector on the wheel housing on left side (lower area).
you can't tell much the difference judging your power being a big guy. the only function is to make you feel the road at high speed. i believe your car have it.

 

Can I unplug the wire to test whether it works?

 

sure you can.
it won't affect other components. some cannot tell the difference at all.
a few times i saw them disconnected and faulty but no complaints.
