Soft top problems on 1990 300SL
My top has stopped opening and/or closing via the button.... One reputable shop said I need to replace 3 hydraulic cylinders at a bargain price of like $2000 lol, However, in my opinion, that would mean they are leaking, but I have seen no leaks on my garage floor AND the Bosch hydraulic pump in the trunk is full... So I kinda doubt that diagnosis. So I took it to the dealer who said all cylinders seem to work , maybe it's the computer behind the passenger seat which costs $1400 and 'marries' the car, so once they install it, even it that wasn't the solution, I can't return it. Plus, that computer runs other things like the power windows which DO work just fine, so I am unsure of that diagnosis and certainly am Not in the mood for a $1400 gamble!
Silly question, but are there certain fuses that run the top that I should check and if so, where are they located - they all look good to me but maybe I am not checking the correct fuses?
Any ideas?
Thanks a zillion!

try shorting the diagnostic ports 1 and 10 just behind the passenger side strut mount with the key on but not running and count the flashes from your top switch. Your seats can operate fine with a bad controller. If you don't get any flashing codes it probably is your controller. You can get them repaired at BBA Re-man or find a used one online. Short 1 and 10 for about 3 to 4 seconds and wait for the codes to flash through the top switch. There is a way to test each miro-switch sensor in the system from the larger harness connector on the long side of the controller. And you are right, no leaks as a rule your cylinders are fine. run the self diagnostic first. There is a fuse in the trunk to the left of the passenger side hinge. It is the foil looking fuse on the bottom. It can look ok just looking at it, but it can be burned under the screws. I wasn't impressed with it so I wired in a normal fuse.
