I just purchased a 2000 SL500 with only 64,000 miles. I absolutely love this car. It's definitely a far cry from the 1980 300TD that I still own! I have noticed with the hard top on the car there appears to be a gap around the bottom of the top and the surface of the car. Is this normal? I would think that it would sit flush on the car. I can hear a little air noise when I drive. A little more than with just the rag top up. Thanks for any help.

Also, off topic, but I'm looking for replacement speaker grilles on the doors. Although the entire car is MINT, it appears the previous owner pushed the door open with his foot and since the interior color is JAVA (light beige), it has black markings on it and is just dirty. They also look faded to where you can see the speaker grilles through the cloth. I would actually like to change the color of the speaker grilles to a chocolate brown which is the color of the top. Thanks!

you do have a little bit of gap on the hard top. you wouldn't want it metal on metal, it would raise hell with the paint work. you might pop your top up and feel around under your top to see if the seals are ok, not torn, cracked or hard. if the top wasn't locked down properly your car would let you know. to start with, do an eBay motors search for the parts you need. they have a lot of goodies there.
