SL TOP MALFUCTION
Hi, I have a 1993 300 SL and the top will not go up or down. It used to go up and down sometimes but not work all of the time. I also noticed that if the antenna goes up the top will not work, if the antenna doesnt go up when i start the car the top works. I dunno if there is any relation or if it is a stupid coincedence. What I'm wondering is if anyone has had problems with this or if anyone can tell me how to check my system out. The rollbar still works so i think the pump is ok. Any diagrams or helpful hints would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Danny

The roof ECU can be reset by disconnecting the battery - though make sure you do it carefully with no ancillaries on to prevent spikes etc. You then need to resynchronise the windows and rollbar - this information is in the owners manual - basically you operate each window individually and hold the button down for 5 seconds when fully open and fully closed. You may also need to operate the roof manually - the latches sometimes go out of sync - i.e one open one closed.

Once you have read all of the codes, you may wish to go back and erase them. They are erased individually one at a time. To do this, read a code, wait a few seconds, and then short the diagnostic socket to ground for 6 to 8 seconds.
There are 30 possible codes. Post back what you find for further help.

Hi, thanks for all the help guys. Bobterry your suggestion helped alot. The codes that poped out are as follows:
1 long blink 16 short blinks
1 long blink 17 short blinks
1 long blink 18 short blinks
1 long blink 23 short blinks
1 long blink 28 short blinks
1 long blink 29 short blinks
1 long blink 30 short blinks
Does anyone know where to find what they mean or know what the problem is with my system. Thanks again for the help, Danny

With that many codes, some of those must be old. They remain in controller memory even after the condition that caused them is corrected. So, I suggest erasing all of them and then reporting back the ones that return. This is particularly important in your case, because a code 29 is among 3 codes that will prevent the system from operating until it is erased.
If you send me an email I can send you a document that lists the codes.
