Resetting the Flexible Service System indicator

I bought a 2000 500SL with 13,000 miles on it. The flexible service system indicator now shows that I need a "B" service. From what I have been able to learn from dealer web sites, this is basically an inspection with an oil change and possibly a coolant or brake fluid change every two and three years respectively.
A local independent mechanic charges $250 for the inspection, oil and filter change, and resetting the FSS indicator. Am I missing something? The filter is right on top of the engine. How difficult is it to drain the oil and reset the FSS indicator? I would appreciate any instructions/advice anyone can give me.
