Default Noobie looking at SL's input appreciated

Starting to look at SL's like the 600 but not ruling out 500's. Can anyone tell me the years to stay away from and some of the pitfalls and what to look out for. I have all the Snap On diagnostic software and pretty good with a wrench. I am honestly looking at one for the Mrs. but I like to play too so if you guys can give me some insight I would appreciate it. The late 90's seem to be reasonably priced but they might be nightmares like the Jaguars can you guys give me the insight and help. Thanks for the response...

I just found a 95 SL600 for 14K with 32K miles sounds like a good price but?????

some of the pre 97 had serious wiring harness problems going back to I think 94. 97 or 98 are ok. a sl can be very expensive to maintain, so the fact you are good with a wrench and have the diagnostics is a huge plus. alldata.com can help some too. Hey, you could get lucky and get one without head-aches. they are wonderful cars. 05 06 230's are good too.

SL500 has most of the fun and less maintenance hassles than the 600.
The wiring harness in the 91-95 era is easily replaceable, but costs $600+
I find mine easy to work on, and parts very reasonable online.
