Just purchased a 1975 450 SL. Has 132,000 mi. on it. In fairly good shape. Has the hard top and soft. It runs good, and the transmission shifts hard from 1st to 2nd, also dip stick was really hot. Plan to change fluid and filter but haven't yet. Also needs brakes all around, will do that next. Have changed oil and filter, was really dark but engine doesn't sound bad. Added some seafoam to gas. Should the trans. be that hot? Read in this Haynes that it may be 350 deg.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. It looks good needs to be polished and a few ***** replaced. Emerg. brake release ****. Where to order?
Thanks! Leont

Thought that was awful hot, but in the Haynes Manual it cautions you to be careful when changeing the fluid, it may be up to 350*. Thanks for the reply, not sure how hot mine was. I have only driven it approx. 2 miles to test drive it. Wanted to change all the fluids before I started driving it. Thanks!
