Default Need help. 2007 SL550 Power Steering Pump. Replacement.

Hello guys.
I have a 2007 SL550.
The power steering pump is making a noise.
Like a bad bearing grinding kinda noise.
Mechanic diagnosed that the pump is bad.

Ooops.

Bought a used pump off eBay.

Tryna replace the pump on my own today.
It's hard.

Removed the radiator/condenser fan.
Removed the radiator/coolant hose.

Removed 3 bolts on the front of the pump.
Took 2 hours.

Not enough space removing screws on the side.
No room to remove bolts in the rear.

Can anyone help me please?
I need a clearer picture of the procedure.

Don't wanna get a mechanic.
Wife would laugh at me.

Thanks guys.

the power steering pump should include the abc pump also, A tandem pump. I would be most worried about the abc system. I would flush to see how dirty the abc is. the fluid is a little expensive but easy to flush. if there is trash in the fluid it could be an indication of more issues down the road because of a failing abc pump. not pretty.

Hi. I just put an AC compressor in my 2007 SL550 this weekend, so am somewhat familiar with that area under the hood. I am 99% sure you will need to unbolt the AC compressor from the engine (no need to disconnect the hoses) in order to get to the rear bolts on the PS/ABC pump. In order to get the compressor unbolted, you will need to either:
- get a set of Torx box-end wrenches
- back out the motor mount bolts an inch or so and jack the engine up an inch to get the clearance needed for a torx socket and ratchet. This is what I did, and it is really pretty easy. Don't jack against the oil pan, though. There is a place at the very front of the engine block that won't bend. Where 2 diagonal braces meet.

Also note that the ABC system is super sensitive to dirt and contamination. Clean thoroughly before disconnecting the hoses. Seal the hose ends as soon as you disconnect them.

As mentioned above, you should go ahead and flush the ABC and power steering as part of this service. Google will find instructions.
