Info on '87 560SL
I have an opportunity to trade an existing sports car (brit) for a Texas '87 560SL. Don't know anything about these vehicles, but the owner says it is mechanically fine. Photos show a clean car with new top & brakes.
I'm asking $6 k for my car so the trade value should be somewhere near that. The MB hase 170k on it.
What do I need to know about this model, good, bad, indifferent?
thanks

RE: Info on '87 560SL
Look for all the standard things like any other car, but look extra close at the power steering pump and reservoir. They are very prone to leaking. MB does not make good power steering systems. Also they have plastic gears in the speedometer that are not compatible with grease and do at some point need to be replaced with aftermarket upgraded plastic gears. Either the odometer will stop or the speedometer will start having erradic readings. Some unscrupulous people who have this done will change the mileage. Good luck. It is a very solid car with lots of chrome.
