I am having trouble removing my hard top. I just bought the car and put the hard top on for the first time. When I press the button the latches in the front on the windon release but the rear ones are stuck. Is there an easy way to remove this ? Am I missing a step or something ?

 

Welcome to the Forum. The short answer to your question is you may have a fault if you're pulling the top system button toward you and only the front latches release.

You'll also need the MB provided 'tool', that is normally found in the toolkit in the trunk. If you don't have this toolkit, you'll need to make a trip to the nearest dealer to buy one....around $13.00

Good luck with this...quite often these systems will re-set themselves following this manual manuever. If you're soft top will not raise or latch, post exactly what the system is doing. Lot's of folks here have been through this and can help you.

When I put my hard top on or take it off, there is usually some extra effort into making the timing sequences of the latches to go in order. Sometimes I belive the computer has to reset. But it could also be the fuse for the rear latches which on my '94 is located in the trucnk. Check the fuses, and then the relays.

Also press the top up button all the way to the front so the computer may reset itself , and then pull it down to release the top. You also can get the trouble shooting guides from other web sites, but you will have to buy them. They sometimes come in handy, as thats how I found the extra fuse spot in the rear trucnk when my front latches weren't working.
