Default Hard Top Installation

OK, this maybe be a retarded question, but it's got me baffled. I was trying to install the hard top on my '92 500SL for the first time. The soft top works great no issues. I laid the hard top on the car, with the front and rear latches aligned. When I push the top button forward the front latches but the rear just raises about a 1/4" in falls back. The top seems to be sitting too high in the rear. There is about a 2 1/2" to 3" gap at the rear. The latch pins are resting solid and cannot be forced any deeper. I can hear the hydraulic latches moving but it will not grab the top. Any ideas?

Thanks

I would try these things firstly. Take the hard top off. Work the roll bar up and down. Make sure it's totally down. Raise the soft top into the locking position. Then, lower the soft top completely until the windows start going up.
Lower the windows, put the hard top on, and then push the switch forward.
