cruize control for 82 380sl

RE: cruize control for 82 380sl
My '81 did the same thing. I called a company on the west coast and they said I would need to send the actuator (on the engine) and the controller (under the dash) so they could work on both together. I only sent the actuator since it was the easiest to get to. After no reply for several weeks, I called and they stated that they really needed both to 'match' the two. I told them just to send the actuator back and I would do it later. I received the unit back with a bill of $69 for repair. That is better than the original quote of around $250 to 'match' the two. It seems that they simply cleaned and lubed the actuator. After installing the piece, my cruise control worked perfectly. Don't let them rip you off, send only the actuator (from the engine bay). If that doesn't work, then send the unit from under the dash.

Hi, I havea 300 SD with non working cruise control but dont know where to start. You mentioned the actuator but Im not sure which part this is. Could you post a picture? Also, where is the other one under the dash?
The Haynes bookI have doesnt mention anything on how to troubleshoot Cruise control issues so any help is great.
Cheers Chris
