Default cruise control issue

My cruise control will not stay "set". I can lift/push it up, and the car will accelerate, but when I "set" it at 65-70 mph, it’ll stay on for about a quarter mile and the just stop working. I can accelerate again to 65-70 mph and a quarter mile later, stops working.... Any Ideas??
I searched the forums but did not see anyone elese with this issue.

Thanks
Dale

check your tires sizes make sure they are the same size from left side to right side. differences in tires size in the 50, 40, 35 aspect ratio should be the same if i tire is a 265 50 18 and the other is a 265 55 18 this could cause problems. also does your car have distronic cruise control with a radar sensor? maybe the alignment of the radar sensor is incorrect.

How would I know if I have a distronic cruise control with a radar sensor? Tires are all the same size.My owners manual is not that detailed.

Thanks for the response.

if you had distronic you would know. when you set your cruise control a picture of 2 cars wil appear on your cluster so you can set your following distance.

I have a 1991 SL 300, it probably wasn’t an option then. I was hoping there was an electrical connection or something I could adjust or clean.
