Default Convertable top control module

Well I'm back. It's seems that I need a control module. the dealers price is 2800.00. It looks simple enough to replace. Is there some wher to get a rebuilt, used or after market one for less?

If you've pulled the diagnostics yourself or had them done and are sure the controller is toast, the least expensive alternative, IMO, is to have the unit rebuilt. This company, bba-remaninc.com , did my climate control unit and did a nice job; a tad pricey, but good work and a hell of alot less than the dealer. It also comes with a warranty, which even if you could find one at a breaker yard probably wouldn't.

You can also try this guy, ; Klause may be able to help you either repair or source another controller.

It would be helpful to know the year of your car, as these modules changed over time and we can get you a more accurate snswer if the model year was in your profile

Thanks for the help. The model # is 129 820 39 26 and it's a 1999.

Thanks again.

You've got the same car I do. The top controller diagnostics are attached to the CAN network in the car. This means that whatever error codes are stored there can be read via Star Diagnostics. If you have a good independent MB Tech, he can pull the codes and you can see what you're really dealing with. About the only way these controllers get destroyed is if someone 'jumped' the battery improperly....then you'll fry one of these things plus a few other. Get the codes pulled before you do anything else.

The dealer read the codes and the thing worked for one block then quit again. They installed a loaner from an older model just so I can open the windows. The windows don't have the same limiting feature as the 99 so I have to leave them down a little, but at least they open until I get something done with this one. It may just be a short since it worked for a few minutes.

Tom, the dealer should have noted the codes they pulled when concluding you needed a replacement and placed them in your car's service history. If this were my car, I'd want to see what they found and verify the real problem before doing anything else.

Thanks for the info. I'll get back to them today and see what they have.
