Question CAR TOO LOW..warning

2003 SL500. i have not driven the car since mid december, maybe started it once..
this morning i started it and had warning in instrument "stop,, car too low"

i pressed the vehicle level control button to level 1 (it creaked and groaned) and then back to normal level and the warning disappeared..

question...is it normal for the levelling system to leak off during extended periods of
no use..or is this a flag that something is going wrong..by the way car only has 35,000 miles.
