Default AMG Wheel spacers --300SL

Ahoy, MercedesFolks,

First post here for me -----

I just bought a set of AMG wheels and tires -- specs below -- for my 1990 300SL They may be from a 2003 500SL with 14mm bolts

Learned so far is that my existing lug bolts are too long, so I will need shorter bolts. The conical shoulder of a 12mm bolt is, however, quite large enough to retain the wheel OK in spite of the ~~14mm wheel bolt hole.

I did see a post which suggests installation of a 5mm spacer on the front wheels to avoid interference. In view of the 62.5mm (?) centering boss on the hub, a spacer of ~~10mm would permit inclusion of a proper centering boss on the spacer. Will a 10mm spacer on the front wheels be acceptable and provide adequate clearance?

AMG Wheels 4/15/09

9 1/2 J x 18" EH2 ET33 A230 401 2102 -w- Pirelli 285/35ZR18

Thanks /s/ Bob

Ahoy, MercedesFolks,

Wheels are on -- No spacers, no problems. Bolts are 27mm.

Look great, and drive great.

Enjoy /s/ Bob

did you buy 27mm bolts to make them fit? my car has the AMG wheels, 1997 and I wanted to put about a 1/2 or 1/3 inch spacer in there, but my bolts do not reach at all . . .do you have a source for longer bolts?

Lets see some pictures of which bolts you went with. I too had an issue with my stock bolts not having threads all the way up. I ordered a set on ebay, hope they work on my AMG wheels

Ahoy, MercedesFolks,

No pix, I just bought my 27mm bolts on ebay. No problems.

A serious caution: Make sure that your bolts are not too long. My tire shop boss said that bolts which are too long will rip out the entire rear parking brake system, and also said "Guess how we know that".

Enjoy /s/ Bob

I also bought 27mm bolts off ebay. The offset on my wheels are 27 in the rear and it was touching the rear brake parking by just like 1 mm enough to make a humming noise. I took them all back out and grinded 4mm off the bolt and they're now problem free

I like your wheels and tires and see that you have even dropped the price. Will they fit on my 1993 sl500?, and what will I need to install them, spacers, different lug bolts. Please call me at 305-310-3866 or call me and I will call you right back. Do not always check the forums so a call is the best way to get in touch. Dave Von Plinsky
