Default AC charge

How do I charge a empty AC system? Car holds good vacuum but won"t accept charge. Does the compressor need to be jumped out? If so how?

rerick,
It would help everyone out if you would complete your profile info with location and year/model of your car.

Depending on year/model, your car may have on-board diagnostics accessed via the climate control unit which can determine a great deal about your system.
What do you mean by 'jumped out' when referring to the compressor?
Explain what happend when you last tried to recharge the system?

Bob

Default A/C charge

Tks Bob
Sorry still a newbie here. The car is a 79 450 sl with 139
k on it. It had a bad "O" ring seal. Replaced all "O" rings.reciever was 3 months old when I bought the car. The dealership that serviced the car for the past owner found the problem but the owner didn't wish to repair it. It has a Dia. port but I don't have a reader. It has ! relay on top right that is heating up. On most domestic cars you can unplug the wires @ the compressor and "jump" them out to override the low freon cut-out. Allowing the compressor to run and fill. I have never filled this car. It will hold almost perfect vacuum for 30 min. or more. just doesn't accept charge. Any ideas would help as Georgia is heating up.
Tks
