94 sl 600 ASR light/"limp" mode
Staying out of limp mode. That's the point in case you can't pick it out. No one cares about the ASR light being on or whether ASR works. Being able to disable it would be nice, but just turning the light off doesn't do anything but turn the light off.
I havea 1995 SL600 and am having the ASR fault problem too. Mine works fine when cold no matter now long I drive. When I shut it off while hot and let it set a few minutes it goes into limp mode. It needs about an hour or two to cool down before it will run properly again. I have not figured out a way to get it out of the limp mode without letting it cool down fora couple of hours. Also the ingine does not seem to be limited by RPM. It seems to rev as high as I want while in limp mode but it just has no torque at all and will barely get out of its own way. I've been told not to change the actuators until I change the wiring harness. My question is how hard is it to change the harness and who makes them. Is there more than one manufacturer? If yes, who should I buy one from?
regauading the wireing harness i just replaced mine there about 950 from the dealer as far as the acuators i found a place that rebuilds them though i havent sent mine in yet but in the next 2 weeks i will be sending it in and the best part is it is only 500 verses over 3000 per unit
$500 is pretty cheap. I am in the process of replacing all the injection wires on my car, by splicing the old harness. I think my ASR fault may have been coming from thecam sensor wires shorting out (they were completely exposed in some spots). I was able to get the ASR light to go out by moving some of the exposed wires and then restarting the car. Well see. If the wiring doesn't fix it then I'll be looking into the acuators. Let us know how yours comes out.
it worked out perfectly it was 400 to rebuilt mine or you can buy a rebuilt one off of the shelf for 550 plus shiping each way. here is the number for BBA 1-866-573-2740 and the website is http://www.bba-reman.com
