My friend has '76 450 SL that started to sputter and stall.
It started again and he could drive home. But that was it.
It won't start, maybe briefly fire on 1 or 2 cylinders.
When spraying starter fluid into the air intake the engine starts and runs on all 8 as long as you spray the starter fluid.
So it's a fuel problem. Pump runs, pressure seems there.
What could be the problem?
Any help advice ideas and suggestions much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Does it runs now? Since this is the first time I saw this message, I'm willing to help! As I understand car engines the way you told, it runs on all 8 after spraying with start gas-there must be a fuel deliver problem! Either the fuel filter are full of cra. , or the pump have done its ride. There might also be a problem in the mechanical injection distributor (mine got electronic injection system, but my SL is way older (1971))...
