30K mile maintenance

30K mile maintenance
I'm brand new to this site and also considering buying a very low mileage '87 560SL and it has yet to have the 30K mile maintenance...it is still not there! What is to be done at 30K? What else should I expect to do immediately with this 24 y.o. ride? Thanks!

I would ask the seller for his history and then judge what needs to be done. The maintenance schedule went out the window years ago due to the excess years as opposed to mileage. With low miles you can expect to pay top dollar (depending on condition) and should expect to replace the fluids and belts when you get the vehicle. If the seller has history then judge if everything or nothing needs to be replaced. The seller should also have an operating manual and a maintenance schedule.

I realize that age does matter as opposed to miles, and I understand (someone said here) that the 30K mile maintenance is a $1000 checklist. I was just curious as to what is on the list (I don't have a maintenance schedule book yet).

Does this list look familiar for proper preventative maintenance, or is some of it unnecessary for a 25K miles car.
- Replace timing chain, tensioner, and upper rails
- Replace driveshaft bearing with housing
- Replace flex discs (front and rear)
- Replace throttle housing with air valve
- valve cover gaskets
- copper seals
- plugs, wires, cap and rotor
- fuel pump relay
- belts
- ignition coil
- air filter
- oil change
- steering shock
- air pump filter
- air duct boat flange
the cooling system and the A/C is not addressed on this list

Have you had a qualified independent Mercedes Tech do a Pre-Purchase Inspection of this car? Typically, this service runs $100 - $200, takes an hour to 1 1/2 hours to complete, is the best possible investment you can make before you decide to buy, and will answer all your questions including should you even buy it in the first place.

Good...focusing on what this or any other car may need before you buy it, IMO, is the only way to go. It puts you in a better bargaining position knowing what's going one with the car, and you'll minimize the after-purchase maintenance $urprise$.
