Default 1999 SL AC fan problem

I have a 1999 SL 500, the AC fan is making a noise, I took off the wiper, AC air filter and I can see through the vents that the clip that holds the fan motor in place has come loose. I removed all the bolts that I can see that hold the black plastic air duct in place but I cannot remove it to get to the motor, am I missing something. Can someone please advise me what to do to get access to the AC fan motor.......... Thank you

Search this forum....I found instructions and pictures of how to remove and replace the fan motor. I had the same problem...clip had come loose...only mine was broken. As you probably know by now...the plastic on our cars is deteriorating. The plastic catch that the clip catches onto hadbroken off. I had to fabricate a new method for latching the motor down. It involved attaching a piece of metal to the catch and screwing it to thebase with a self treading metal screw. Any way that you can devise to hold the motor down should work.

Thanks for the tip, however I have searched and searched this forum and I cannot find the post you mention, any further clues, approximate date of post, title etc. My problem sounds just like yours, the clip has come unscrewed, just can't figure out how to get to it!
